Man fatally injured in North Union Township crash
A man riding a motorcycle suffered fatal injuries in a collision with a small sport utility vehicle on Route 51 at about 10:40 a.m. Thursday in North Union Township, officials said.
State police identified the man as Robert Earl Metz, 48, of Fayette City. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The name of the SUV driver was not released.
The crash occurred in front of Day Centennial Chevrolet. First responders performed CPR and other life-saving efforts on the man before he was taken to Uniontown Hospital by Fayette EMS. A motorcycle helmet was also on the scene.
Route 51 traffic was limited to a single lane for about two hours, then closed for several hours while a state police reconstruction unit investigated the cause of the crash, officials said.
State police, Fayette EMS, North Union Township and Uniontown fire departments responded to the scene.
