Large cache of drugs and weapons found in Brownsville home
Three people were arrested after state police found a large cache of guns and drugs in Snowden Terrace they believe may be connected to three shootings in the area.
Isaac Paul Michaux, 18, Dejour Rashad Thomas, 20, and a 17-year-old Hiller boy were arrested after a Special Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at 430 Clover Street at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police suspected narcotics were being sold out of the apartment, Fayette County District Attorney Rich Bower said at a press conference.
Investigators found about 155 bricks of suspected heroin, half an ounce of suspected crack cocaine, 2 pounds of suspected marijuana, an AK-47 and four handguns, two which were reported stolen, Bower said.
The heroin was equivalent to about $7,750 stamp bags with a street value of $50,000. The crack cocaine had a street value of about $700 and the marijuana had a street value of about $2,000, Bower said.
“Preliminarily, the calibers of those firearms have matched the caliber of shell casings collected during the investigations into the reported shootings,” he said.
Three shootings were reported in Brownsville between May 26 and June 3 near Clover Street in Brownsville. Police believe the shootings were connected. The first was alleged attempted homicide of Darrin E. Mackey, 26, of Republic, reported in Snowden Terrace. He was taken to a hospital and released. Police said he refused to cooperate with the investigation.
On June 3, he and Mark Anthony Johnson, 26, of Milwaukee Wisconsin allegedly shot Deshawnte A. Bell at about 1 a.m. on Green Street. Johnson and Mackey were both arrested and charged with attempted homicide and related charges. Bell was taken to a hospital for treatment and expected to survive.
On June 2, someone allegedly fired shots into a residence in the area at about 12:10 p.m.
He said all of the guns were fully loaded and easily accessible to those inside the apartment. They were sent to the state police crime lab for further testing.
“The Pennsylvania State Police, as we all know, is always committed to protecting the citizens the state police serve from the senseless violence and crime that the manufacture and sale of illegal narcotics brings to our communities,” Bower said.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Thomas tried to leave the apartment when police arrived and Michaux and the juvenile tried to hide.
Police also found $20,000 cash, a high-speed money counter, a large amount of ammunition and other paraphernalia, according to the affidavit.
Michaux and Thomas are charged with three counts each of possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of receiving stolen property, and one count each of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance. They were both arraigned on $300,000 bonds and lodged in Fayette County Prison.
Bower said he plans to petition for the teenĢƵ case to be moved from juvenile court to the court of common pleas.
The shootings remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Belle Vernon at 724-929-6262.
