A child on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Connellsville.

The accident happened at 5 p.m. at the intersection of Pittsburgh Street and Wills Road, a busy intersection in the city.

Connellsville Pollice Cpl. Bryan Kendi said the child, whose age he could not confirm, was flown to a hosptial for treatment, likely as a precautionary measure.

Kendi warned that both motorists and children need to be extra vigilant at this time of the year, when days get longer and youngsters are out playing after school.

“Be aware of your surroundings,” said Kendi. “Kids too need to use extra care. Get your bikes checked. Make sure your brakes are working,”

According to Kendi, the child’s bicycle either had bad brakes or no brakes, which contributed to the accident.
