Teen charged with attempted robbery of Connellsville couple
A Connellsville teen is behind bars for allegedly attempting to rob a Connellsville couple with a tire iron the day before the teen’s 18th birthday.
Sebastian Edward Smith, 18, of Gibson Terrace was charged as an adult with attempted robbery, attempted simple assault, possession of a firearm by a minor, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and terroristic threats.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Daisy Garletts reported at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday Smith came to her Gibson Terrace apartment asking for cigarettes and followed her outside to smoke. He allegedly brandished a metal tire iron and swung it at her boyfriend, Juanye Knopsnider, and demanded they give him “everything they got.” She said Knopsnider disarmed him and beat him up, and Smith fled on foot. She said Smith then walked back toward their apartment and fired a gun in the air. She ran inside to protect her children and called 911.
Smith told Connellsville police he fired his father’s revolver, but denied trying to rob the couple, according to court documents.
He was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Ronald Haggerty Jr., who set bail at $15,000. He remains in Fayette County Prison unable to post bail.
