A Grindstone man allegedly stabbed another man during an argument that started in a vehicle Friday night.

Edger Franklin Yoders, 49, of Grindstone Road was charged by Redstone Township Police with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, Eric Springer was found just before midnight along Grindstone Road near Red Hill Road, bleeding with a belt around his leg. He told police Yoders stabbed him during a fight in his car. They also fought in the road until someone broke up the fight. Redstone Police treated Springer on the scene and he was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment for the stab wound and an injury to his forehead.

On the scene, police found a utility knife with a black handle and tar on the blade. Springer’s boot was also cut, according to court documents.

Yoders told police he could not read or write and gave them a verbal statement, saying Springer was “running his mouth” in the back seat of the car and that Springer said he was going to “smash” Yoders’ head. Yoders said they could fight once they pulled over, and claimed “as soon as they got out Springer swung at him” and hit him in the shoulder, then started fighting on the ground until someone broke it up. He denied stabbing Springer and said he was cut from glass on the road. He told police he owned a utility knife with a black handle and tar on the blade, but claimed he left it at work.

Police said Yoders had marks on his shoulder and elbow. He denied medical treatment.

Yoders was arraigned Saturday morning before on-call Magisterial District Judge Richard A. Kasunic II, who set bail at $35,000. Yoders remains in Fayette County Prison unable to post bail. Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr.
