A driver was injured when the brakes of a van reportedly went out, sending the van into the living room of a home on Park Avenue Thursday afternoon. The woman was home when the crash happened at about 1:20 p.m. Uniontown City Police are investigating.

A woman was inside her Uniontown home when a van driver careened down a steep hill and went through the front door, ending up in her living room Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 66 Park Avenue at about 12:20 p.m. The driver suffered injuries that appeared to be minor, Uniontown City Police said. He was taken to Uniontown Hospital by Fayette EMS. The woman also said she was hurt, but declined EMS transport. She told Uniontown City Police officers she heard a sound and went toward the front of her home to see the van coming through her house. She escaped through a side door.

The driver told police his brakes went out as he drove down a steep hill near the home.

The van hit a gas line, causing fumes to be expelled. Four dogs were inside the house. Hoffman Kennels was called to the scene for the dogs. It was not immediately clear whether the dogs suffered from exposure to the gas. Columbia Gas was also called to the scene to secure the line.

K2 Engineering was called to assess the damage. The woman was renting the property, Uniontown Police said.

Uniontown City Police are investigating. They were assisted on the scene by Uniontown Fire Department and Fayette EMS.
