A Saltlick Township man faces charges of vehicular assault after he was accused of hitting a woman with his car Saturday evening.

Keith Allan Burkholder, 48, is charged by state police with felonies of aggravated assault by vehicle, and misdemeanors of driving under the influence and accidents involving death or personal injury.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the Champion Food and Fuel at 1802 Indian Creek Valley Road shortly before 7 p.m. A woman at the scene told troopers she had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. According to the complaint, she had road burn on her knees and bruising on her hands and legs.

Though the woman did not get a look at the vehicle, police used surveillance footage from the gas station to identify the car and interviewed Burkholder at his home in the 100 block of Pine Slopes Road.

According to the complaint, Burkholder told police he was aware he had hit somebody but left the scene because he had received a phone call that his child was choking.

Police said Burkholder smelled strongly of alcohol, and that he allegedly admitted to drinking at least four beers before going to the gas station.

Burkholder consented to a blood draw at Highlands Hospital, and later provided police with a written statement confessing to hitting the woman with his car, according to the complaint.

District Judge Ronald Haggerty arraigned Burkholder Sunday morning and sent him to the Fayette County jail on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 26.
