Smithfield woman killed in two vehicle accident
A Smithfield woman was killed in a head-on collision in Nicholson Township Tuesday morning.
According to state police, Jacob Manchas, 29, of Uniontown, was attempting to pass a vehicle while driving east on Smithfield Masontown Road at about 7:15 a.m.
Police said Manchas was in a no-pass zone. He then crashed into a west-bound vehicle being operated by Paula Guthrie, 62.
Guthrie was transported to Uniontown Hospital where she was declared dead. Manchas was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va., with a potentially serious injury. Police did not disclose the nature of his injuries.
According to police, Manchas will be cited for careless driving.
