A Connellsville man is in jail after police allegedly found multiple illegal substances in his vehicle Monday morning.

Connellsville police charged Alfonso Pugh, 36, with felonies of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, fleeing an officer, and misdemeanors of driving under the influence and drug possession.

According to the criminal complaint, police attempted to pull Pugh over near the intersection of North Seventh Street and Memorial Boulevard shortly before 1:30 a.m. for failing to turn off his high beams.

Police said that Pugh sped away and got a flat tire after hitting the curb when turning on to West Crawford Avenue from North Second Street. According to the complaint, Pugh was arrested and refused a blood draw.

Police said there were more than 200 baggies of suspected heroin, pills and suspected cocaine in the trunk of the vehicle.

District Judge Ronald Haggerty arraigned Pugh Monday morning and sent him to the Fayette County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Aug. 3.
