A South Union Township man is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl and impregnating her in December.

Corey Lee Sickles, 23, of Playford Road, was arraigned this week on felony charges of child rape, statutory sex assault and corruption of a minor after state police said he attacked the girl while visiting a South Union Township home.

Police said Sickles went to a relativeĢƵ house on Long Street in the early hours of Dec. 17 and approached the girl in the bathroom, pushing her against a counter and forcing himself on her.

The girl told Sickles to “get off of me” during the encounter, police said. Sickles allegedly told the girl he would “hurt her badly” if she told anyone about what happened, but she notified someone at her middle school two days later, prompting school officials to contact state police, according to court documents. She was examined at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where testing was performed.

Investigators said they reviewed surveillance video from a nearby building that showed Sickles at the house the night of the attack, and later found evidence on the girlĢƵ clothing matching a DNA sample provided by Sickles.

The girl later took a pregnancy test, which was positive, according to court documents.

Sickles, who was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Jennifer Jeffries, is being held at the Fayette County jail on $40,000 cash bond. His defense attorney, Chad Schneider, did not return a phone message seeking comment.
