Upper Tyrone Township man arrested after hours-long standoff
An armed Upper Tyrone Township man surrendered Monday morning after holding police at bay for several hours.
State police charged Christopher J. Connors, 44, with multiple felonies of terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of children.
Troopers were first called to Connors’ home in the 500 block of Dexter Road shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday. His wife told police that Connors began drinking heavily when she returned home from work.
According to the criminal complaint, an argument ensued and Connors went into his bedroom and fired two gunshots.
Investigators said Connors pointed a pistol at his wife and threatened to kill her and himself before aiming at the floor and firing two more shots.
There were four children between the ages of 6 and 12 in the home. Connors’ wife took the children to a neighbor’s house and called 911. She reported hearing another two shots while outside.
State police activated their Special Emergency Response Team. Police departments from Greensburg, Uniontown and Scottdale also responded to the scene to create a perimeter around the home.
Police filed charges against Connors Sunday night while he was refusing to come out of his house. The standoff continued for several hours into Monday morning.
Connors also faces misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and simple assault.
He was arraigned at 6:30 a.m. Monday before District Judge Jason Cox, who sent him to the Fayette County jail on $75,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 15.
