City Mission holds topping-off ceremony for “SallyĢƵ Sanctuary” womenĢƵ shelter
Washington City Mission held a beam-signing and topping-off ceremony Thursday morning to celebrate a construction milestone for “SallyĢƵ Sanctuary” womenĢƵ shelter being built in the city. The $7.1 million shelter that will offer housing for up to 50 women for overnight stays is about one-third of the way through construction.
Sally Mounts, who recently retired as the City MissionĢƵ chief development officer and for whom the shelter is named, was the first to sign the beam, followed by numerous others during the ceremony. “I’ve got a pen to sign this beam,” Mounts said. “LetĢƵ get it up. LetĢƵ finish that shelter.”
The beam with “SallyĢƵ Sanctuary” emblazoned on the side was then hoisted in the air by a crane and brought into place by ironworkers with Mosites Construction Co. as they installed the final piece of the buildingĢƵ steel frame.
