Alleged burglar shot by woman in Brownsville

By Garrett Neese 2 min read

A Fayette County man is accused of breaking into a home in Brownsville and assaulting a resident who shot him several times when he refused to leave.

Ronald Rosiek, 69, was transported by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for emergency surgery after he was found by police. His condition was unknown Wednesday.

The complaint indicated the alleged victim, a woman who was not identified, was able to identify Rosiek as the person who was in her home, but did not explain how she knew him.

Court paperwork stated the woman called police to her home on 18th Street after Rosiek repeatedly rang her doorbell around 11:25 p.m., according to the complaint. In a follow-up call 15 minutes later, she told police Rosiek was beating on her door.

After breaking the front glass window with a brick, Rosiek went upstairs to the woman’s bedroom, where he yelled at her while standing between her and the doorway, the complaint said.

When the woman told Rosiek to leave, he advanced toward her, police said. In response, she shot him in the right upper leg with a .38 Special Taurus revolver.

She fired another four shots as he kept moving forward, one of which hit him in the right side of his head, the complaint said.

The woman told police Rosiek chased her to the second-floor bathroom, preventing her from shutting the door.

By that time, she was out of ammunition. Police said Rosiek forced the woman onto the ground, pulling out some of her hair and injuring her arms, back and neck.

Rosiek then held the woman down and tried to cover her face with fabric, according to court documents.

The struggle ensued for several minutes until the woman escaped Rosiek and ran downstairs, where police were waiting, the complaint said.

Police found Rosiek in the upstairs bathroom while responding to the distress call.

Rosiek is charged with aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, possession of an instrument of crime, loitering and prowling at night, simple assault and harassment.

No bail or preliminary hearing date had been set as of Wednesday.
