Subrinia Lavauna Cross Brown
Smock
Subrinia Lavauna Cross Brown, of Smock, went home to rest with the Lord on Friday, November 28, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer.
The beloved wife and mother was born in Brownsville on November 15, 1960, the only daughter of James Franklin Cross and Betty Jean Sanders Cross; sister to James, Brian and David Cross; and wife of Steven Brown.
Subrinia enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, after graduating from Uniontown Area High School in 1978. She proudly served her country for four years. While stationed in Grotin, Conn., she fell in love with and married her husband of 44 years, fellow sailor, Steven Brown. She exited from service a Petty Officer Third Class in 1983.
She is remembered as a generous, strong (she would have insisted ‘stubborn’), and exceptionally selfless and caring wife, mother and friend who cared for and worried about everyone else before herself.
She is survived by her husband, Steven Brown; her children, Anna Brown Smalley (husband, Matthew Smalley) and David Brown; and her grandson, Howell Smalley. She is also survived by her best friend, Willow Greist.
No services are scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and Samaritan’s Purse.
