formerly of Greensburg

Rev. A. Harrison Smith, 98, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 11:58 p.m., at his son, Tom Smith’s home in Parsons, Kans. He had moved to Parsons in October to be near family.

He was born December 19, 1926, a son of the late Ance W. Smith and the late Esther Parnell Smith on a farm near Munford, Ala.

He grew up in the Munford community and attended Munford elementary and high schools. Just four months short of graduation he left school to enlist in the United States Navy Seabees and served three years during World War II in the South Pacific.

At the end of the war, he came home to Munford for a short time and then moved to Greensburg with his wife, Eleanor Mae Overly Smith, whom he had married during the war. He and his wife raised their three children in the Greensburg, Mt. Pleasant area while he worked at several different jobs while preparing for the Christian Ministry. In 1960 he was called to the ministry through the Church of the Brethren, where he served for 56 years. He served congregations in Pennsylvania, Kansas and North Dakota. One of the greatest joys of his ministry was leading people to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor, to whom he was married 67 years. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Kathleen; a son, Ronald; a great-grandson, Ky Harris; and daughter-in- law, Jerrie Smith. Also preceding him in death were 10 brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his second wife, Virginia, of Greensburg; his son, Thomas Smith and wife Melanie of Parsons; a daughter-in-law, Irela Smith of Fairchance; six grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood.

Private interment will be held in Bethel Cemetery, Farmington.

Memorials are suggested to New Beginnings Church of Parsons or to The Church of The Brethren of Greensburg.
