Sunset: December 22, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Jerome Porter, of Brownsville, announce his passing Monday, December 22, 2025. He gained his Heavenly wings with his loving family by his side.

Jerome was born Saturday, January 10, 1953, in Brownsville, to the late John Porter, and Violet Rose Martin.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 46 years, Rosa Porter; and his loving daughters, Janee Porter and Shari Porter; his sister, Rita Grooms and husband Carver Grooms. Also left to cherish Jerome’s fond memories are several, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jerome was also preceded in death by his sisters, Loretta Thomas and Betty Williams.

Jerome Porter was a gentle soul whose quiet strength and enduring kindness touched everyone who knew him. He was known for his calm presence and thoughtful nature.

Jerome preferred listening over speaking, offering comfort with his steady companionship. His life was not defined by grand gestures but quiet moments, support and love shared with his family and friends.

Jerome was an avid Steeler fan and loved to cook on the grill for his family. One of his favorite hobbies was cutting grass on his riding mower, which was decorated with Steeler gear, while listening to Will Downing or jazz music.

Jerome was a U.S. Marine (Vietnam Veteran), and has held several occupations to include a courier for Gallatin Bank, coal miner, security guard at Sony, OR nurse, and guard at SCI Fayette, before retiring to his family residence.

Though Jerome is no longer with us, he will forever remain alive in our hearts and memories.

It is written in 2 Timothy 4:7-8: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Monday, December 29, from 12 noon until the 3 hour of service, with Pastor Alfred Thompson, Jr. officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 275, 940 and 838.
