James R. Marvin Jr., 76, of Uppermiddletown, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Jim was the son of the late James R. Marvin Sr. and Olive Showman Marvin of Smock.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Charlotte Marie Shaffer Marvin, who passed away in 2023.

Jim will be deeply missed by his daughter, Deana Marvin; son, Scott Marvin (wife, Adele); granddaughter, Jessica Beck; grandsons, Cloyd “CJ” Lilley, Cody Marvin, James Marvin and Dean Spexarth; step-granddaughter, Angelica Rowe; and great-grandchildren: Austin, Lincoln, Paislee, Luca and Grayson. He also leaves behind extended family, including in-laws, nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends.

Throughout his career, Jim worked as a laborer and mine foreman for the United States Steel and Consolidated Coal mining companies. He took great pride in his work and the life he built for his family.

Jim enjoyed fishing, building and racing his Chevy Nova known as the “Wild Mouse II,” and later restoring a classic 1969 Chevy Nova. He also found joy in creating and painting woodcrafts.

The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and aide from Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care over the past several months, as well as everyone at Monarch Meadows who cared for and befriended Jim throughout his dementia journey.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service.

Arrangements are under the direction of DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, PA 15468.
