Gary Thorpe
formerly of Fairchance
Gary Thorpe, 78, of Conway, S.C., formerly of Fairchance, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026.
He was a coal miner most of his life until retirement.
Gary always drove a truck and pulled his camper. He loved to travel, visiting 49 of 50 states with his camper, mother, and usually a few others. He refused to fly and so he never went to Hawaii.
He spent most of his life in and around Fairchance. He moved to South Carolina with his sister, Patty 10 years ago.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Myrtle Thorpe; his sister, Janet High; and brother, John Thorpe, Jr.
Surviving are his sisters, Patty Puhl of Conway, and Sandra Crimbly of Point Marion; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews.
A memorial visitation and service will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance. No graveside service is planned.
