Patrick James “Jim” Peavornick, 80, of Masontown, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026, in his home.
He was born in Bellevue February 13, 1946, a son of the late Joseph and Ceil Smearcheck Peavornick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Patrick Logan; and sisters-in-law, Marie Grant and husband John, and Judy Gordon.
After graduating from high school, Jim attended California University and later worked as a sales representative for Rocko Oil Company.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, Third Marine Division, as a radio operator during the Vietnam Era, earning two Purple Hearts.
Jim was a dedicated member of the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department, serving as both a trustee and a firefighter for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the VFW.
Jim had a deep love for fishing and cherished his time spent at the Outer Banks.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Judith Gordon Peavornick; daughters, Erin Prosser and husband Edwin of Pittsburgh, and Heather Geho and husband Ryan of Charleston, S.C.; his sister, Patricia Langley and husband Larry of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Mike Gordon and partner Debbie, Sam Gordon and wife Debi; many friends; and his beloved dog, “Buddy.”
In lieu of flowers, donations, in his memory, may be made to the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department or the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Family and friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Tuesday, March 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Masontown Volunteer Fire Department will hold services at 6 p.m., followed by services by VFW Post 4584 and American Legion Post 423 at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, March 18, from 11 a.m. until noon, the hour of service, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
