County commissioners misleading the public

By Jim Killinger 4 min read

This is not an April Fool’s joke and these comments are exactly what’s going on in Fayette County politics when it comes to the three Fayette County commissioners.

I have watched commissioners come and go over the years and listened, read and followed their promises to the voters so they can get elected. A voter has the right to vote for the person they feel will do the best job for their constituents,  however, the elected commissioners are subject to criticism and censure.

This was demonstrated while Commissioners Anglea Zimmerlink, Al Ambrosini and Vince Zapotosky held office over the last four years. Some comments were correct and others were ambiguous, especially by cronies of Zimmerlink who disrupted meetings and submitted nonfactual information to the press and radio on a routine basis.

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ newspaper and their reporters over the years have always been fair and balanced to all Fayette County residents and politicians. When an article is published that doesn’t meet a politicians or one of their cronies baseless opinions, they are criticized. The politicians and their cronies will not put factual information in print because they don’t want to be challenged or called to a duel to substantiate and provide evidence regarding their comments.

I had asked several times through the media  for Commissioner Zimmerlink or any commissioner to debate some of their issues before the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s editorial board to answer questions in person and produce evidence. Zimmerlink refused to appear before a reporter with paperwork relating to the selection of Astorino for the prison project. The answer is simple. None existed, although she said she had it all. Also, Ambrosini and Zapotosky admitted no paperwork existed.

The current commissioners have shown their colors since January. Zimmerlink and Vicites talked to Monty Lilley prior to letters of interest and board selections to the Fayette Cuonty Airport Authority knowing that Lilley admitted to the theft of $3.1 million, spending 30 months in prison and being ordered to pay $3 million in restitution. Zimmerlink forwarded the name of Monty Lilley and got an approval from Vicites and Lohr. To be clear, Zimmerlink stated in one of her comments that Jim Killinger was quoted as saying Zimmerlink, Vicites and Lohr met with Lilley prior to board selection and that accusation was false. Here again, she is incompetent or negligent with the facts. Lilley made these comments himself about meeting with the commissioners prior to his selection at the airport board meeting and those comments are in the record.

Yes Angela, you and the other commissioners are the ones that are shameful and did violate the Sunshine Law by Lilley’s admission, not mine. The newspaper need not write a follow-up story or correction because they have printed the facts, while you and your cronies continue to ignore the facts as usual. News coverage doesn’t have double standards Angela, you do!

It’s been a privilege lately to see honest and factual information reported by people like Vicki Hartsek, John Shaffer, Joe Maher, Bill Gerke, other members of the Fayette County Airport Authority and several other people. More people in Fayette County need to step up and do the right thing. They need to attend county ommissioners meetings, board meetings and other county functions to see what’s going on, so you are not provided false and factless information by the commissioners so their political agendas can move forward.

To verify this comment, look at Zimmerlink and Vicites who collectively have 28 years as commissioners; yet they are in a cloud regarding the budget, prison, courthouse repairs, man power needs in row offices, equipment/office needs, pay raises, working conditions and taxes. In 28 years, wouldn’t it make sense to piecemeal tax increases while you are in office so we don’t have a large increase all at once as we do now? This answer is also clear; Zimmerlink and Vicites had to get re-elected and they did, but just what have they done other than to deceive and mislead all of Fayette County?

As for Commissioner Lohr, he has briefly shown his colors to voters who supported him. Many voters have expressed to me that promises he made to them have been false and I would suggest to go along to get along won’t get him elected for another term.

Wake up and do the things you promised your constituents.
