Gov. Wolf better than Rendell

2 min read

I appreciate that following her conviction on criminal charges, Gov. Tom Wolf again called for the state’s non-attorney Attorney General, felon Kathleen Kane, to immediately step down(which thank heavens, she has agreed to do), characterizing her conviction as “a sad day for the Commonwealth.”

In contrast, former governor and Democratic Party elder statesman Ed Rendell, made no such statement as legislators were indicted and convicted for thievery and corruption. How could he? He, joined by former State Supreme Court Justice Richard Zappala and State Sen. Christine Tartaglione, all apparently without shame, went to court to argue for leniency for their pal, former state senate powerhouse, multiple felon Vincent Fumo, one of the greatest thieves to ever infest the Commonwealth, famously using what he characterized as “other people’s money” to enjoy the high life. Rendell also engaged in fundraising for another fallen felon, Beaver County’s infamous Mike Veon, this after his friend had been indicted.

When asked to comment about convictions of indicted allies, all Rendell could muster was, “It is what it is.”

Tom Wolf is far from the perfect governor, but he leaves Ed Rendell in the dust as far as his sense of ethics.
