School taxes criticized
Several of the politicians who ran for election or re-election promised that a priority for them was tax reform, especially concerning property and school taxes. They are safely in office enjoying the great benefits and perks that we give them, and by the way, last week I got my school taxes in the mail. If you live in Laurel Highlands School District, you already know how high the taxes are.
I have been retired for 18 years. I’m making the same amount of money today, as I was the day I retired. I worked for the federal and state government all my life. We were promised a cost of living raise from time to time. In the past 18 years, I’ve received none, while politicians and others get a yearly cost-of-living raise of at least 3 percent automatically.
Tax relief and tax reform I’m sure will be talked about in future elections – then forgotten. I want to thank my local politicians for taking such good care of me and other seniors on fixed incomes. In the future, they will be knocking on my door to make promises and seek my vote. I have not had someone in school in over 30 years. Why am I still paying school taxes?
