U.S. Sen. Toomey criticized

By Sue Porterfield 2 min read

Why do the people supporting U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey’s campaign believe that a person doing their job is a bad thing?

There are ads out attacking Democrat Katie McGinty for doing just that. When McGinty worked for the Rendell administration, her job as head of the Pennsylvania EPA was to bring clean-energy jobs to Pennsylvania. She did just that. She brought both domestic and foreign business to Pennsylvania. These businesses created over 3,000 new jobs in Pennsylvania and another 5,000 to 10,000 in related jobs right here in Pennsylvania.

The Toomey attack ad states that 250 people were left unemployed when one of those new businesses closed down and McGinty took a job in the private sector. No kidding!  All businesses do not succeed. Some businesses succeed, and some fail. It happens all the time.

When Tom Corbett became governor of Pennsylvania, McGinty took a job in the private sector. The attack ad seems to think losing one job and taking another is a bad thing. How many jobs has Sen. Toomey brought to Pennsylvania? The answer is none.

I feel sure that if Sen. Toomey loses the election, he will return to his old six-figure job on Wall Street. The difference is that Sen. Toomey really never left his old job working for the big banks and Wall Street. He just collected his salary from the taxpayers instead of the big banks.

While working for the banking industry as a senator for Pennsylvania, Pat Toomey voted to shut the government down and default on our national debt. That move would have added another trillion dollars to the taxpayer’s national debt but would have given the banking industry another trillion dollars in interest.

Toomey is a Wall Street banker pretending to be a U. S. senator. Why should Pennsylvania taxpayers pay the salary for Toomey, a Wall Street banker?

When I vote in November, I will need to ask myself: Do I want a senator that will work to bring jobs to America and Pennsylvania, as Katie McGinty has done? Or, do I want a senator that will work exclusively for Wall Street, as Toomey has done?
