Brownsville club going strong
There is a Women’s Democrat Club in Fayette County. It is the Women’s Democrat Club of Brownsville, and it was founded back in the late 1930s. At one time, there were four such clubs. Brownsville is the only one left. This club belongs to the Pennsylvania Federation of Democrat Women, District 17.
This club supports many projects throughout this county as well as Brownsville. We support women who are running for local and county office. We have made donations to the Brownsville Library, women’s shelters in Brownsville and Uniontown, Brownsville Student’s Project for downtown Brownsville, and we do two scholarships to the local high school seniors. We held a “Meet Your Candidate” forum last year for all candidates. We try to do this each year when we can get the space to hold them. Also, there have been enormous donations made to someone who needs a little help, and we supported a soldier who was serving in the military.
This club has done and still does support projects when needed. We have ladies who belong from all over Fayette County. There are dues of $20 – $15 for our club dues and $5 for the Pennsylvania Federation of Democrat Women. Members receive a newsletter of happenings in the state four times a year. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. All women are welcome to join as long as you are a Democrat.
Bring some new ideas and help support your Democratic Party. Here is the address where we meet: Brownsville Apartments, Second Floor, Brownsville. We try to have speakers who can tell of the happenings here in the Democratic Party or happenings in the county. We hold a Christmas party and a picnic in the summer.
If you are interested, come on down the third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and join us. For questions about the club, you may contact our president, Dolores Randolph, whose phone number is in the book. She is from Isabella.
Here are a few names of former presidents: Bea Long, Marie McCoy, Edna Monovich, Sue Grimm, Percey McCune, Blanch Mottey and Dolores Randolph.
I hope that has brought some interest to let you all know that there is an existing Democrat Club still active in Fayette County.
Ruth Dolan is a resident of Brownsville.
