Country needs to give Donald Trump a chance

By Gene Barnhart 5 min read

When I was growing up, most of us had a sincere respect for God. We were taught to put our faith and trust in him. We were also told to respect the flag and be proud to be an American.

We were guided by not just our parents but the people we came in contact with. The schools and teachers respected God and country. Before class started, we would pray the Our Father and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. When we were taught about the Constitution of the United States, it was obvious that the men who wrote it were influenced by God because of its contents.

The churches and their leaders stood strong when someone tried to take away our churches and faith in God. It is not that way now. Our church leaders started to compromise too much and became too conservative in taking a stand for God and our beliefs. Jesus stood strong and never faltered when confronted by what he called hypocrites. He allowed himself to be mocked, suffered extreme pain and gave his life. He did not compromise or give into their false accusations that opposed his father and his beliefs.

There are a lot of good ministers and priests that really care about serving God, but a lot of them have to follow strict rules that hinder them from expressing their true feelings. The religious leaders are the shepherd of their flocks, and they need to speak out when our faith is threatened. We the parishioners are looking to them for strength and guidance.

Our country has always been threatened by other nations. When I was growing up, our country was threatened by the Communist Party. They attempted to spread propaganda with the intent of eventually taking control of our country.

I remember a carload of men came to our town and started handing out information on the Communist Party and started scaring some of the ladies. My dad and a couple of men surrounded the vehicle and kept them there until the police arrived and arrested them. I was proud of my dad and those men for standing up again tyranny.

As we all can see, there is a lot of changes taking place in our society today. The sad thing is that we have let it happen. The radicals and fascists are succeeding in taking away our values like God, flag and now they’re trying to take over our government. Note: These groups do not like President Trump. Could it be that they are afraid that he will do his best to destroy them? What people are they supporting?

Certain schools refused to let the children watch the presidential inauguration ceremony. What kind of example are those people giving to the kids? What do you think of a mother who takes her child out of school and then attempts to organize a protest because the president’s grandchild (who is 5 years old) was being enrolled in the same school?

Some of the major TV news networks don’t deliver all the facts when presenting the news. This leaves a false impression for the people that watch their program. Because they trust them, they blame someone that, in a lot of cases, is not the one to blame. They have their own definition as to what is a lie.

Then you have a person make a video with a look-alike of the president. He takes a gun and shoots him. The other one calls the wife of the president a prostitute. They think it’s funny. I think they’re sick.

What about some of our politicians that continuously apply pressure and obstacles that prevent these important issues from being approved? For example, they voted against a new healthcare plan when they know that the Obama plan is going to be bankrupted in the near future. The rates are going so high that the people will not be able to afford it.

Now they’re doing everything they can to stop a very qualified judge from being appointed to the Supreme Court.

Now what about us? Are we doing anything that could help strengthen these radical groups that are trying to destroy America? Every time that we use the president as an excuse and blame him for the problems in our government that existed long before he was elected, we do it unjustly because of personal reasons and then we are like the others.

Putting our personal feelings aside, have we really given this president a chance to prove what he can do for our country? How are we going to know what kind of leader he is going to be if we don’t give the man a chance?

We are getting close to Holy Week and celebrating Easter. This would be a good time for all of us to examine our conscience and take a good look as to how we are living our lives. We need to ask God to guide us in doing what is right for our country, instead of what is good for ourselves. God is just waiting for us to turn to him so he can change our lives.

Let’s ask God to give us the strength to fight corruption, to stand up for what is right and the patience in giving our new leaders a chance to make America great again. God is protecting the United States of America. Let’s make sure that we are doing the same.

God bless this great country of ours and have a blessed and happy Easter.
