Amount of litter is very irritating
My wife makes me walk with her … a lot.
During our walks we have become irritated with the amount of litter along the road.
So, we decided that since we are out and walking anyway, we would just each take a plastic grocery bag and pick up litter as we go.
During one of our two-mile walks (one mile up one side of the road and one mile back down the other side), this is what we brought home and threw away or put in our recycling bin.
n Six plastic soda or water bottles.
n Six Bud Light aluminum beer cans.
n Three MacDonald’s coffee cups with lids.
n Two Copenhagen snuff (plastic) containers.
n One Nikolai Vodka plastic flask.
n Three Pennsylvania lottery scratch off tickets.
n One Coors Light beer can.
n One MacDonald’s bag containing a quarter pounder and french fry wrappers.
N Various pieces of paper from potato chip bags, candy bars, etc.
Now, this being the opinion page, I could give my opinion of the people who are trashing our roadways, but it would surely be edited out.
Rather, I will leave you with this thought.
We claim to strive to “reduce our carbon footprint,” pass laws to clean the air, work to clean our waterways, try to keep our environment clean for future generations, etc.
How can we ever accomplish this as long as we have people who think nothing of flinging their trash out of their vehicles as they drive by?
