System benefits powerful people
A lot of our laws have a sordid past. Big businessmen contribute large amounts of corporate money to the campaigns of successful lawmakers to see to it that bills penned by corporate lawyers become the law of the land — powerful people of privilege and bottomless wealth are paying other powerful people of privilege and bottomless wealth to grant their big businesses tax breaks and to let them export jobs, pay poverty-level wages and strip workers of their meager benefits and pensions, which pits workers against one another, like so many cats tossed into a bag and shaken, to scrabble for a living.
This time it’s a Republican lawmaker shaking that bag. Next time it’s a Democrat. But it’s always big businessmen paying them to shake it, while working class cats tear themselves to pieces, by design, oblivious to the amusement we’re giving those powerful people of privilege and bottomless wealth.
