How long will unity last?

2 min read

The attempted assassination of Republican members of Congress and their staffs was an atrocity, an attack on all elected officials as was eloquently stated on the morning of the assault by U. S. House Speaker Paul Ryan.

It will be interesting to learn how long the newfound bipartisan solidarity and harmony in Congress lasts. It evaporated rather quickly after another unifying event, the attack on our country of September 11, 2001.

This latest horror demonstrates anew that the greatest threat to our safety is not the “radical Islamic terrorist” that the president regularly warns us of, but the homegrown, all-American radicalized would-be killer who is armed to the teeth with weapons designed to mow down human beings in rapid succession.

A massacre was prevented only due to the presence and bravery of U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise’s security detail. Thank God they were there.

When London was most recently struck by a terrorist atrocity, the president first offered condolences and empathy, but then quickly attacked the mayor of London for allegedly promoting policies which he implied enabled the attack to occur. I wonder if the mayor of London will now strike back, blaming Mr. Trump for embracing the ability for even those who are mentally ill to be able to inquire weapons that are designed to kill as many people as possible in a short period of time.
