Bernie Sanders not prejudiced

1 min read

I am responding to Rick Jensen’s commentary in Thursday’s paper.

He states that U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders used a religious test to disqualify Richard Vought’s appointment. That is simply untrue, in my opinion, Sanders did not disapprove based on the man’s religious choice, but rather on the man’s stated bias and condemnation of non-Christians.

I have never heard Sen. Sanders condemn anyone’s religious beliefs, ethnic background, or sexual preferences. He has every right though to question any nominee’s bias in these areas.

If Sen. Sanders or any senator believes that a nominee for a federal position has biases that would affect their fair treatment of U.S. citizens, they they should be able to state those concerns and vote to disapprove that nominee.
