Trump nightmare must end soon

2 min read

It is impossible to know what debacle and chaos are coming next in a White House that has been crippled through its incompetence.

Not even those with the greatest fear of a Trump administration could have imagined the extent to which it would humiliate itself and our nation, the latest as of this writing being the allegation that the president engaged in obstruction of justice, pressuring former FBI Director James Comey to end the investigation of the loathsome former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

Questions have been raised about Mr. Comey’s actions as director, but his honesty has not been challenged. He is the person to be believed in this matter rather than the serial liar who heads our government, the “alternative facts” administration.

How can Mr. Trump possibly retain the loyalty of a significant number of core supporters? Do they believe in the Richard Nixon doctrine that if the president does it, it cannot be a crime? Did they also believe Nixon when he felt obligated to assert, “I am not a crook!”? When will enough be enough for them: will it ever? When will every patriotic Congressional Republican come to recognize that duty to country must supersede party loyalty?

I suppose if one were looking to provide every benefit of the doubt to the president, they could say that someone as unintelligent as he, someone who knows nothing about the structure of government and the nation’s history could come to believe that he controls the FBI and its director. He must not be allowed to get away with it. Somehow, our long national nightmare must end.
