Local Catholic church needs to help homeless

1 min read

With the number of homeless people increasing yearly, I believe that the churches should get more involved to provide some relief. This especially holds true during the winter months.

I contacted both the Catholic church at the Diocese of Greensburg and also on separate occasions contacted Bishop Malesic regarding this serious and depressing situation. Neither the Bishop nor the Diocese responded to me.

In my correspondence, I asked about providing some cots and perhaps a warm meal to help the homeless. The Diocese has many churches that have closed to use. One example is the St. Mary’s school in Uniontown that closed 10 years ago. A perfect place for helping provide a warm cot during the winter months. Instead $4 million were spent on a lawsuit for sexual abuse by pedophile priests in the Diocese. The Diocese knew about these priests but did nothing.

Now today their own parishioners are some of the homeless and the Diocese refuses to do anything. Refusing to respond to a parishioner’s complaint is very upsetting and shows the true character of the Catholic church and the Diocese of Greensburg.
