Where are the patriots?

2 min read

One would like to think that when a member of Congress goes off the rails, posting a video cartoon in which he is depicted murdering a colleague and attacking the president with swords, that there would be agreement on both sides of the aisle that this conduct is not acceptable and must be met with a strong response.

This, though, is 2021, the era in which partisan warfare and threats are commonplace, so it all depends upon whose ox is being gored.

A motion to censure the offending representative, extremist Arizona Republican Paul Gosar, passed largely along party lines by a mere vote of 223-207.

Not only did Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy not support the action of those in the majority on this vote, but he is threatening to get even, to remove Democrats from their committee assignments if and when the Republicans regain the House majority and he is elevated to the position of Speaker, God forbid.

The recent actions of Rep. Gosar render him even more of a menace to society than he was previously, and his conduct is particularly dangerous in an era in which millions believe lies that are spouted by individuals of influence and in which tempers flare, threats are made, and violence is commonplace over disagreements in policy and ideology. Patriots would condemn such actions. The number of patriots has become severely diminished and there are not many left in the GOP.
