MEADOW RUN HIKE

The Meadow Run Trail has many geological features that create the back drop for its beauty. From large rock formations to water falls to majestic hemlocks, this trail is a must. The loop is about a 1.5 miles long. Please wear sturdy shoes.

Tom Faucet was a famous “blather-skite-of-the-hills” who allegedly killed General Braddock, his own commanding officer, during the French and Indian War. His grave is found near the Ohiopyle State Park campground. Visitors to the grave have on occasion run into Mr. Faucett’s ghost and heard this story first hand. This is an easy 2 mile round trip hike.

Ohiopyle – American Whitewater, the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds & Rivers, and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources announces that the 16th Annual Ohiopyle Over The Falls Festival will be held August 22, 2015. Whitewater paddlers nationwide will gather there to race over the spectacular eighteen-foot waterfall in the picturesque mountain village of Ohiopyle. Spectators are invited to watch paddlers sprint and cartwheel, end-over-end, off the waterfall.

Other event features include the Falls Under Lights, Town Party, Live Music, Silent Auction and food booths. The area also offers biking, hiking, camping, magnificent scenery, photographic opportunities, history and cultural activities. Saturday, August 22

Registration will begin at 8am in Ohiopyle State Park.

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Waterfall Practice Runs

12 p.m.: Two competitions: Falls Race

200-yard whitewater course includes two-foot, four-foot and eighteen-foot drops.

After race – Freestyle – Kayakers will surf the rapids above the waterfalls’ eighteen-foot drop, and do routines and cartwheels competitively, end-over-end, off the edge for points. Waterfalls practice runs will continue afterwards until 4:00 p.m.

7:30 p.m.: Ohiopyle Town Party

The party will feature live music, pictures from the event, and food booths. The Agway Shoplifters will play at the Town Party. In addition, lights will be cast on the eighteen-foot waterfall, making it a spectacular spectacle and party centerpiece.

Proceeds benefit American Whitewater, Ohiopyle Stewart Volunteer Fire Co. and Ohiopyle State Park. High water date is August 29th or Sept 12th. Volunteers needed for the event.

MUSIC IN THE MOUNTAINS

This two day festival includes interpretive programming, music, craft and food vendors.

UNIONTOWN CHAPTER OF IZAAK WALTON LEAGUE

UNIONTOWN BEAGLE CLUB

The Uniontown Beagle Club’s trials first trial begins at 7 a.m. with the bench show at 10:30 a.m. and the second trial at 11 a.m. Trial dates are: Sunday, Sept. 27; Sunday, Oct. 25; and Sunday, Nov. 22. The Pennsylvania State Championship in on Sunday, April 26.

SPORTING CLAY SHOOTS

HUNTER-TRAPPER INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE

NOTE: Must be 11 years old to register. Students must attend the 2-3 hour class to be tested and certified.

Students must study entire course content on own online, taking about 8-10 hours to complete.

CABLE RESTRAINT CERTIFICATION

This is a one-day certification class for any person desiring to complete the Mandatory Cable Restraint Program. Being certified allows for the use of cable restraint devices to trap certain furbearing animals.

Certification is required by regulation for any trapper using cable restraint devices to capture foxes and coyotes in Pennsylvania.

HUNTING SEASONS

A partial listing of 2014-2015 seasons and daily bag limits:

WOODCHUCKS (GROUNDHOGS): No closed season, except on Sundays and during the regular firearms deer seasons. No limit.

STARLINGS AND ENGLISH SPARROWS: No closed season, except during the antlered and antlerless deer season. No limit.

EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE: Season dates shall run concurrently with mourning dove season. Shall be counted as part of the aggregate daily limits for mourning dove season.

DEER, ANTLERLESS (Military Bases): Hunting permitted on days established by the U.S. Department of the Army at Letterkenny Army Depot, Franklin County; New Cumberland Army Depot, York County; and Fort Detrick, Raven Rock Site, Adams County. An antlerless deer with each required antlerless license.

WOODCHUCKS (GROUNDHOGS): No closed season, except on Sundays and during the regular firearms deer seasons. No limit.

2014-15 FURBEARER HUNTING SEASONS

COYOTES: No closed season. Unlimited. Outside of any big game season (deer, bear, elk and turkey), coyotes may be taken with a hunting license or a furtaker license, and without wearing orange.

During any big game season, coyotes may be taken while lawfully hunting big game or with a furtaker license.

The Fish and Boat Commission no longer lists the number of trout to be stocked.
