Tom Faucet was a famous “blather-skite-of-the-hills” who allegedly killed General Braddock, his own commanding officer, during the French and Indian War. His grave is found near the Ohiopyle State Park campground. Visitors to the grave have on occasion run into Mr. Faucett’s ghost and heard this story first hand. This is an easy 2 mile round trip hike.
RISE OF THE FALLS

This moderate 3 mile walk explores the war being waged between two of nature’s most formidable foes: water and rock. During this hike we will explore the formation and migration of two of the park’s most famous waterfalls.

The mountains of Pennsylvania have a rich history when it comes to spirited libations. From the whiskey Rebellion to Prohibition the folks in the mountains have done their share of “shine making”. During this program we’ll explore this history and show you an actual still.
SPROUL HIKE

This moderate two mile hike will explore the old Sproul farm. Along the way we will travel through a variety of habitats. We will discuss the park’s efforts to keep this area thriving and supporting a variety of wildlife species.

The gardens in the park are all aflutter with butterflies and hummingbirds. Join the naturalist as she explains the life of butterflies and how to attract them into your yard. There will also be some butterfly like activities. Perhaps you will be inspired to create your own butterfly garden.

Ohiopyle State Park Falls Area
Ohiopyle – American Whitewater, the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds & Rivers, and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources announces that the 16th Annual Ohiopyle Over The Falls Festival will be held August 22, 2015. Whitewater paddlers nationwide will gather there to race over the spectacular eighteen-foot waterfall in the picturesque mountain village of Ohiopyle. Spectators are invited to watch paddlers sprint and cartwheel, end-over-end, off the waterfall.
Other event features include the Falls Under Lights, Town Party, Live Music, Silent Auction and food booths. The area also offers biking, hiking, camping, magnificent scenery, photographic opportunities, history and cultural activities. Saturday, August 22
Registration will begin at 8am in Ohiopyle State Park.
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Waterfall Practice Runs
12 p.m.: Two competitions: Falls Race
200-yard whitewater course includes two-foot, four-foot and eighteen-foot drops.
After race – Freestyle – Kayakers will surf the rapids above the waterfalls’ eighteen-foot drop, and do routines and cartwheels competitively, end-over-end, off the edge for points. Waterfalls practice runs will continue afterwards until 4:00 p.m.
7:30 p.m.: Ohiopyle Town Party
The party will feature live music, pictures from the event, and food booths. The Agway Shoplifters will play at the Town Party. In addition, lights will be cast on the eighteen-foot waterfall, making it a spectacular spectacle and party centerpiece.
Proceeds benefit American Whitewater, Ohiopyle Stewart Volunteer Fire Co. and Ohiopyle State Park. High water date is August 29 or Sept 12. Volunteers needed for the event.

CABLE RESTRAINT CERTIFICATION
This is a one-day certification class for any person desiring to complete the Mandatory Cable Restraint Program. Being certified allows for the use of cable restraint devices to trap certain furbearing animals.
Certification is required by regulation for any trapper using cable restraint devices to capture foxes and coyotes in Pennsylvania.

A partial listing of 2014-2015 seasons and daily bag limits:
WOODCHUCKS (GROUNDHOGS): No closed season, except on Sundays and during the regular firearms deer seasons. No limit.
STARLINGS AND ENGLISH SPARROWS: No closed season, except during the antlered and antlerless deer season. No limit.
EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE: Season dates shall run concurrently with mourning dove season. Shall be counted as part of the aggregate daily limits for mourning dove season.
DEER, ANTLERLESS (Military Bases): Hunting permitted on days established by the U.S. Department of the Army at Letterkenny Army Depot, Franklin County; New Cumberland Army Depot, York County; and Fort Detrick, Raven Rock Site, Adams County. An antlerless deer with each required antlerless license.

2014-15 FURBEARER HUNTING SEASONS
COYOTES: No closed season. Unlimited. Outside of any big game season (deer, bear, elk and turkey), coyotes may be taken with a hunting license or a furtaker license, and without wearing orange.
During any big game season, coyotes may be taken while lawfully hunting big game or with a furtaker license.
