Steelers sending five to the Pro Bowl
PITTSBURGH — Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro will have bags to pack come late January if the Steelers aren’t already preparing for the Super Bowl.
All five were selected to the 2017 Pro Bowl set to kick off Jan. 29 in Orlando, Fla. The Steelers are one of three NFL teams to have five Pro Bowlers, joining the Cowboys and Titans. The Raiders led the league with seven selections, while the Falcons had six.
Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown are the lone selections of the group who earned starting nods.
Bell will start over DeMarco Murray and LeSean McCoy despite missing the first three games of the season due to suspension. Brown will start at receiver alongside OaklandÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ Amari Cooper, beating out the two other selections in Indianapolis’ T.Y. Hilton and CincinnatiÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ A.J. Green.
Roethlisberger, 34, joins Tom Brady, 39, and Derek Carr, 25, as the AFC quarterbacks. This marks RoethlisbergerÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ third straight Pro Bowl selection.
Pouncey is making his fifth appearance, while DeCastro earned his second straight selection. They are both part of a Steelers offensive line that has allowed just 17 sacks this season, second lowest in the league.
The Steelers will not have any representatives from the defensive side of the ball.
