Anthony Rizzo has worn out the Pirates this season.

The Cubs first baseman has gone 25-for-47 against them for a .532 batting average. He also has 11 doubles, one triple and five home runs in 52 plate appearances, along with 15 runs scored, 14 RBI, five walks and three strikeouts in 56 plate appearances over 12 games.

RizzoÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ batting average is the highest of any major league player against a particular team this season with at least 25 plate appearances, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

It is also the second-highest batting average against the Pirates in a season by an opponent with at least 50 plate appearances since 1913, the first year records are available from Baseball-Reference.com

Another Cubs first baseman, Mark Grace, batted .568 in 1988 when he went 25-for-44 with five doubles, nine runs scored, five RBI, one stolen bases, seven walks and three strikeouts in 52 plate appearances over 12 game.

One big difference: The Cubs were 7-11 against the Pirates in 1988, compared to 9-3 this season.

Pirates catchers had combined to hit just two home runs in 90 games this season coming into the weekend, tying the St. Louis Cardinals for the fewest in the major leagues.

Erik Kratz and Chris Stewart had one each. Francisco Cervelli has yet to go deep in 201 plate appearances, while making a team-high 48 starts behind the plate.

The Pirates compiled a 91-72 record from the beginning of last yearÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ second half to the end of this yearÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ first half.

The .558 winning percentage ranked third in the National League Central behind the Cubs with their major league-leading .632 mark and Cardinals, who won at a .559 clip.

The Pirates ranked seventh in the NL and 10th in the majors.

The Pirates had a plus-7 run differential in the first half of the season, scoring 423 runs and allowing 416 while compiling a 46-43 record. It was the seventh-best mark in NL and the 14th in the majors.

The Cubs led the majors at plus-139, scoring 460 runs and giving up 321 while going 53-35.
