PISTOL SHOOTING CLASS

The Rostraver Sportsmen’s and Conservation Club is hosting a “Learn to Shoot” pistol class at the club from 1-5 p.m. July 9. The instructor will be Augie Malekovich, an NRA certified instructor, military veteran and competitor on the History Channel’s “Top Shot.” The cost of the class is $60 and seats can be reserved with a $20 deposit. Money can be mailed to the club at 559 Cedar Creek Road, Belle Vernon, PA 15012. Reservations can also be made by calling 724-872-4399. The club will provide pistols, ammunition and ear and eye protection.

WASHINGTON’S RAFT

Before his infamous attack at Jumonville, George Washington and a group of men built a raft and attempted to float the Youghiogheny. During this program we will attempt to build our own raft out of logs and float it on the Yough. Bring your own life jacket if you have one (or we’ll loan you one of ours).

Session I – 10 a.m. (Ages 3-5)

Session II – 1 p.m.

Children will march around Mingo Creek Park looking for an ant hill or two. After the walk, hot dogs and marshmallows will be roasted over an open campfire.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL DAY CAMP

Mingo Creek Park — Shelter 3

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday, July 11 – Friday, July 15 (Ages 8-12)

This is a popular camp for 8 to 12 year olds. Campers will learn basic survival skills including primitive fire building, shelter construction, water collection, basic action/reaction methods, camouflage and stalking, atlatl throwing, and more. Campers should dress for the weather and light hiking, and bring a lunch and a water bottle each day.

Pre-registration is required. Accepting registration beginning April 1. Payment in full at time

of registration, cash or check. Registration is limited to one family per registrant with a

maximum of 2 day camps per child.

SECOND ANNUAL M.O.A CATFISH DERBY

HUNTING SEASONS

WOODCHUCKS (GROUNDHOGS): No closed season, except on Sundays and during the regular firearms deer seasons.

No limit.

PORCUPINES: Sept. 1-March 31, except during overlap with the regular firearms deer season. (3 daily, season limit of 10).

CROWS: July 3-April 10, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only. No limit.

STARLINGS AND ENGLISH SPARROWS: No closed season, except during the antlered and antlerless deer season.

No limit.

SPRING GOBBLER (Bearded bird only): Special season for eligible junior hunters, with required license, and mentored youth – April 23, 2016. Only 1 spring gobbler may be taken during this hunt.

SPRING GOBBLER (Bearded bird only): April 30-May 31, 2016.

Daily limit 1, season limit 2. (Second spring gobbler may be only taken by persons who possess a valid special wild turkey license.)

From April 30-May 14, legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise until noon; from May 16-31, legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise until one-half hour after sunset.

2015-16 FURBEARER HUNTING SEASONS

COYOTES: No closed season. Unlimited. Outside of any big game season (deer, bear, elk and turkey), coyotes may be taken with a hunting license or a furtaker license, and without wearing orange.

During any big game season, coyotes may be taken while lawfully hunting big game.

or with a furtaker license.

OPOSSUM, STRIPED SKUNKS and WEASELS: No closed season, except Sundays.
