WWE Network hosts Extreme Rules
Extreme Rules to live up to name?
The WWE presents Extreme Rules tonight on the WWE Network with an eight-match card, but will it really be extreme?
When the WWE first debuted the Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View in 2009, every scheduled match had a stipulation or was a multi-person match.
Of the eight matches scheduled tonight (including the kickoff rematch on the preshow between Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler in a No DQ match), six of them have a stipulation.
The show is filled with rematches from Payback, including the WWE title match between Roman Reigns and A.J. Styles.
Their rematch is an Extreme Rules match.
Corbin and Ziggler is a rematch as is the Submission match for the WomenÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ title between Charlotte and Natalya.
Ric Flair is banned from ringside for the bout.
The last rematch is the Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose match, with this one being an Asylum match.
The Miz will defend the Intercontinental title against Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Kevin Owens, The New Day defends the tag titles against The Vaudevillains, Kalisto defends the U.S. title against Rusev, and the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson face the Usos in a Texas Tornado match.
Send your feedback on the matches and I will share some in next weekÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ column.
Interactive column next week!
Speaking of next weekÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ column, we are going to try something new and I want you to be a part of it.
I received a video message earlier this week asking me who would be on my Mt. Rushmore of all-time pro wrestlers.
I am going to answer this, but I am going to save it for next week.
Email me your picks or tweet them to @BillHughes_III and I will share some of them.
Also, I just created the Twitter account so share any advice.
WWE TLC headed to Pittsburgh
The WWE returns to Pittsburgh for Raw on July 25, and it may not be the last time it comes to the ‘Burgh in 2016.
It was announced Friday that TLC, the WWEÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ December show on the network, will emanate from CONSOL Energy Center on December 18.
I am trying to get final confirmation, but the venue has been tentatively booked for the event.
Cena, Stephanie speaking gigs
Would you like to have John Cena or Stephanie McMahon as guest speakers at one of your events?
You will have to open up your checkbook.
Both are represented by ICM Partners.
It will cost you $100,000 to have Cena give a 45-minute speech and do a 15-minute Q&A session.
McMahonÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ asking fee is $50,000.
Cena hosting the ESPYÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ
Speaking of Cena, he will host the ESPYs on July 13.
The ESPYs show is always held the day after the MLB All-Star game.
That is the only day of the year when there is not one game scheduled between MLB, the NBA, the NFL or the NHL.
More on Stephanie
On Monday, Regan Arts announced that it will release a memoir by Stephanie McMahon on growing up in the WWE.
Part of the reason the memoir is being released is thought to be that it will be a way for the WWE to get some more mainstream publicity.
The piece will be released on September 27.
WWE wrestler undergoes back surgery
Emma had surgery on Wednesday after rupturing a disc in her back in a match Saturday night.
No timetable has been set for her return.
Cruiserweight Classic details
The WWE announced earlier this week that the Cruiserweight Classic (CWC) tournament will be taped over four months.
The matches will take place on June 23, July 14, August 26 and September 14.
This weekÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ question
I found your take in last weekÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ column about John Cena not needing the title interesting. Can you explain? Gary, Carroll Township.
When wrestlers reach a certain status level, they do not need a title.
A perfect example is Shawn Michaels.
Many, myself included, say he is the best they have ever seen in the ring.
But people are surprised to know that he only held a heavyweight title four times.
He didn’t need a title.
Titles are usually used to elevate wrestlers, and Cena has been the WWEÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ top dog for a decade now so he doesn’t need the title to become a bigger star.
Hope that clarifies my statement.
