Future of TNA could be dictated any time now
TNA on thin ice? WWE to buy?
TNA presented Bound For Glory last night on Pay-Per-View, and could it be the companyĢƵ last PPV?.
The future of TNA will be dictated between today and the end of this coming week.
It has been known for years that TNA has been having financial issues and while there have been potential buyers, including WWE, Dixie Carter has refused to sell off the majority of the company.
TNA president Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame owns a minority share and has funded the last three televised events out of his own pocket, and he appeared on the Busted Open talk show on Sirius XM Wednesday afternoon to discuss where the company is.
Corgan shared that he has been trying to buy majority ownership of the company.
He shared that he will be in Orlando tonight for the PPV and hopes a deal is worked out by tonight.
“Having been through the last three rounds, I still remain very optimistic that come Sunday, I will be standing in the ring putting over what is about to happen,” he said. “I will be in Orlando come rain or shine.
“I can’t speak for everybody else at this particular moment, but I will be in Orlando this Sunday.”
Corgan continued and talked about the importance of the next eight days as TNA is scheduled to have Impact TV tapings this Friday.
ItĢƵ reached a point where itĢƵ going to have a transformational moment,” he said. “Whatever is going to happen this…weekend or whatever…it is definitely going to change the direction of the company forever.
“Does that mean the company ends? Does that mean the company begins a new era?”
Will a deal be made with a new investor, or will TNA shut its doors forever?
A last-minute anonymous person is funding tonightĢƵ show.
WWE has made an offer to buy TNA, and the assumption is that WWE will close the company down and that the sale would be so that the WWE owned the TNA video library.
That would be no different than what the WWE did when it bought both WCW and ECW in 2001.
If TNA does close its doors, it would not be a surprise but it would be a shame as a few TNA experts that I reached out to said that the product has been as strong as it has ever been.
That has not translated into better ratings for TNA on Pop TV, but the product has drastically improved since Corgan became hands on with the company.
Wrestling fans will know shortly.
Update on WWE injury
Seth Rollins suffered an injury to his ribs during the Universal title match against Kevin Owens last Sunday.
It is expected that he will work through the injury.
Mt. Rushmore continues next week
We may be done with the Mt. Rushmore of wrestlers by decade, but there are many more mountains to climb!
Check back next week for the next chapter.
This weekĢƵ question: When do you see The New DayĢƵ title reign ending and who do you think will end it? Frederick from Jacksonville, Florida.
Considering that The New DayĢƵ tag title reign has now gone past the 400-day mark and the all-time record of 478 days is well within reach, I would think that the WWE will keep the belts on them until December.
That said, the WWE could always pull the string on Sheamus and Cesaro winning the belts as “feuding partners.”
But if I had to guess, I would say that The New Day beats DemolitionĢƵ record of 478 days.
While The New Day is well-established and does not need the belts to be popular, both members of Demolition are among the wrestlers who filed a class-action lawsuit against the WWE a few months ago.
The hunch is that the WWE will remove Demolition from the record books.
