End of summer means the beautiful weather of September

As we move into the month of September, the realization that summer is about over makes us wonder once again where did it go. So much more to do and the time is running out — swimming pools are closing; the days are getting shorter; tomato and pepper plants are finishing up; the good corn crop we have enjoyed all summer is coming to an end; and the watermelons have been “oh, so sweet.” This weekend may be our last picnic until next year.

For most people, it was a great summer. Lots of sunny warm days, and yes like most summers in our area, a few hot ones and a bit of humidity, but also a number of cool fronts from Canada to break up any hot and humid weather that wanted to overstay its visit. Actual days above 90 degrees totaled 11 with three days reaching a high temperature of 94 . In the mountains, just 89 for the high, but we also had a few of those humid days with dew points of 70 or better, making it feel really sticky.

Within the next four weeks, mother nature will be gearing up for the annual fall color show, and in about eight weeks, we will be seeing our first snow flakes. Folks are already asking about what kind of winter to expect. The early forecasts are all over the map and the truth is nobody knows for sure, particularly at this early date. Remember last year was expected to be so cold and it ended up very mild and with just one major snowstorm. As they say, stay tuned.

But, lets just enjoy the beautiful weather we experience in September and then we will get into the outlook for what to expect this coming winter.
