Allen, CS-Fullerton eager to return to action
Monessen native Charel Allen is in her first season as an assistant basketball coach on the Cal-State Fullerton womenĢƵ basketball team, sits at 2-7 and returns to the court on Saturday when the team hosts Antelope Valley.
While a 2-7 record is new to Allen considering that she won a WPIAL and PIAA title at Monessen, played deep in the NCAA tournament with Notre Dame, and won several championships while playing overseas professionally until she retired earlier this year, the team is doing better than expected.
The team lost several players when the new staff was brought on board and some people with knowledge of the program didn’t expect the team to win any games this season.
“We are doing better than some expected,” Allen said. “We have to continue to build the foundation for the future and things are going well considering our lack of numbers.”
CS-F hosts UT-San Antonio Tuesday before the team heads to Utah Valley on Dec. 23.
Following that game, CS-F will host five straight games between Dec. 29 and Jan. 13.

Monessen native Justice Rice has started all eight games on the young season for Grove City and is playing over 25 minutes a game while he still adjusts to the speed of the game.
If it s bit of a change for Rice who graduated from Monessen last year as the programĢƵ third all-time leading scorer.
He is averaging 4.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in this, his freshman season.
