Royal Rumble review
The “Road to WrestleMania” officially began last Sunday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and the show has received mostly positive reviews.
Randy Orton won the Rumble, John Cena won his 16th World title by defeating A.J. Styles in a classic match, and Kevin Owens retained the Universal title against Roman Reigns.
Instead of giving a full detailed recap, I will share the views of some fans and reply to their comments.
Alex Sible, a 2003 California High School graduate, made the trek to San Antonio from Albuquerque, N.M., for the show.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the show and there was not a bad match the whole night,” she said. “I would highly recommend that anyone attend a Royal Rumble someday if they can.”
One thing that Alex pointed out that was obvious to me was how slow The Undertaker was moving.
“Seeing him was exciting, of course, but he didn’t look great in the ring,” she said. “I feel like this might be the year he announces his retirement and he was really showing his age.”
Taker had hip surgery this past fall and will have to have more surgery, but he is holding off until he retires.
Another sore topic for fans was Reigns coming into the Rumble at No. 30 as fans wanted to see other starts return or debut.
On Friday, @KcBats_2 posted on my Twitter wall asking, “I was really looking for (Samoa) Joe to come at (No.) 30 but they sent Roman in. I was very disappointed.”
The 30th spot in the Rumble was the biggest complaint, and numerous names were sent my way including Finn Balor, Joe, Kurt Angle, Steve Austin, Styles, and others.
Here is my opinion on it.
First off, Balor nor Angle were granted medical clearance, so they were out. Austin has long been retired, and as far as Joe, why have him debut and lose? It would be a waste of his debut.
If Orton had thrown Styles out to win, how would the fans have reacted?
Yes, it upset fans to have Reigns enter the Rumble, and he was booed out of the building.
But, look at the positive reaction that Orton received when he threw Reigns out. Orton would not have received that type of reaction had he thrown out any of the other 28 competitors to win.
And for those who emailed about not wanting to see Orton challenge Cena for the WWE title again at a Mania, it isn’t happening!
Rollins hurt again?
Monday on Raw, Rollins reinjured his knee when attacked by Samoa Joe. He went to see renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Alabama for a follow-up.
Rollins is expected to be out of action for up to two months, which means his tentative match with Triple H may or may not happen.
Who will replace Rollins if he can’t wrestle?
There are several options, including Joe, Shane McMahon, and others.
Five-star classic match online
For most of January, I heard about a match between New Japan Pro Wrestling heavyweight champion Kazuchiika Okada and Kenny Omega and how good it was.
The bout was the main event of NJPWĢƵ Wrestle Kingdom 11 show on January 4.
NJPW has decided to let the world see just how good the match is as it has been posted online for free viewing until February 7th.
The match, which can be viewed at http://njpwworld.com/p/s_series_00413_2_10#googtrans(en), lives up to the billing of a classic and if you have time, I recommend watching it if you have time.
Wrestle Kingdom is NJPWĢƵ annual WrestleMania, or Super Bowl, and the event took place at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo.
Without a doubt, this is one of the better matches I have seen and it will win awards for match of the year at the conclusion of 2017.

Last Saturday night, RYSE ran its second show held at The Stronghold in Lemont Furnace.
“I am very happy with the show and the crowd was great,” said Jason Clements, the man responsible for the show taking place. “The matches were really good and we look to continue to grow.”
RYSE runs kid-friendly and family-oriented shows that are geared to kids, and fun can be had by all.
Results of the show include J.T. Smooth pinning Vlad Balashov, Toryn Flight pinned John Rudin, Gannon Jones pinned Tony Johnson, Crusher Hansen pinned Lewis, Lee Moriarty pinned Sonny Vice, Joey Rogers pinned Dennis Gregory, Chris Taylor pinned Christian Black, Stryder pinned Justin Idol, and the team of Brandon K and Dirk Ciglar defeated David Lawless and Duke Davis.
The next show will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Update on FaçadeĢƵ overseas tour
Last week, we took a look at Façade heading overseas, and his experience went well.
He defeated Anton Deryabin, of Moscow, in a bout that took place at the UE Convention Center in Changi, Singapore.
“There were wrestlers from Australia, Thailand, Russia, and Hong Kong,” he said. “It was on the eve of Chinese New Year and there were WWE scouts there for the potential upcoming Asian tournament.”
