Wyatt, Bayley title wins
In a result that has been long overdue, Bray Wyatt finally won the WWE championship last Sunday at the Elimination Chamber show.
WyattĢƵ win caught the eye of the wrestling world, and it was a move that should have happened previously. None the less, his new WrestleMania challenger will be decided in a battle royal this Tuesday on Smackdown and my pick is Luke Harper.
Look for Randy Orton to change his mind eventually and get back into the match at Mania.
With Bayley, her win was a little more surprising to me. On Twitter, @burghgirl1313 asked if I think that BayleyĢƵ reign will last long.
BayleyĢƵ match with Charlotte was excellent, but the title win felt rushed to me.
Much like it happened with Sasha Banks on Raw in Pittsburgh back in July, WWE rushed a “first” with both title wins and I would have liked to see Bayley win the title in a singles match at Mania.
It would have felt more special.
Could WWE pull a “Dusty Finish” and give the belt back to Charlotte Monday?
Mania taking shape
With Smackdown now full speed ahead to Mania, it has the jump on Raw as the Monday night show has Fastlane to build to next month first.
For months now we have looked at a Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens squaring off, and after the “Festival of Friendship” this past Monday, the feud is upon us.
Another potential Mania match began its storyline, albeit subtly, during a backstage segment at the Elimination Chamber show. As Natalya and Nikki Bella brawled backstage, Belle bumped into Maryse, who had powder in her hands and it got all over her.
The rumored mixed tag match between John Cena and Bella against The Miz and Maryse may be happening. If it does, will Cena propose to his long-time girlfriend at Mania?
Andre the Giant documentary
For readers who are too young to have seen Andre the Giant, the stories about his career, both in the ring and out, are legendary.
WWE and former ESPN personality Bill Simmons will work together on the piece that will air on HBO.
WWE legend passes away
It was announced Friday that Jim Myers, known to the wrestling world as George “The Animal” Steele, has passed away.
A legendary rule breaker in the 1960s and 1970s, he became a fan favorite in the 1980s and had a “crush” on Miss Elizabeth. A middle school teacher in Michigan, Myers wrestled around his teaching schedule and during the summers.
I had the chance to wrestle him in 1999, and I will talk more about it next week.
Another wrestling death
Chavo Guerrero, Sr., brother of Eddie Guerrero, passed away last Saturday. He performed in the WWE in the mid-2000s as Chavo Classic as a playoff of being the father of Chavo Guerrero, Jr.
Hectic Raw week
A question I often get about wrestling is about the life of glamour that WWE stars see.
Currently, the Raw crew is in the middle of a stretch that I am sure they are not happy about. Raw did a house show in Dallas, Texas, Friday and flew to Bakersfield, California, for a show Saturday night.
They are in Long Beach, California, today and in Los Angeles for Raw Monday.
As soon as Raw ends, they are flying to the East Coast before flying across the Atlantic Ocean for a quartet of shows in Germany from Wednesday through Saturday.
RYSE back to Lemont Furnace
This Saturday, RYSE returns to the Stronghold with its third show.
The Road to the RYSE Championship starts with the qualifying match will take place, and Duke Davis has demanded a face to face with Brandon K.
The lineup has not been finalized, but the show is kid-friendly and family-oriented. Doors open at 7 p.m. with a pre-show in the lobby that will be live on Facebook.
Quick look at ManiaĢƵ VI-XI
We continue our look at past Manias as we head towards this yearĢƵ event.
Mania VI saw Intercontinental champion The Ultimate Warrior defeat Heavyweight champion Hulk Hogan to unify the titles.
Warrior beat “Macho King” Randy Savage in a retirement match at VII and it was also The UndertakerĢƵ first Mania as he defeated Jimmy Snuka.
VIII was the Mania that wasn’t in one aspect. The card was altered from its original plan with three matches being changed.
Ric Flair was to defend the heavyweight title against Hogan, Sid Justice was to face Taker, and Savage was to face Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Instead, Hogan faced Justice, Taker defeated Roberts, and Savage won the title from Flair.
Another top match was Bret Hart defeating Roddy Piper for the IC title.
Hogan walked out of IX with the heavyweight title despite not being in the actual title match as Yokozuna defeated Hart.
On the undercard, the Steiner Brothers defeated the Head Shrinkers in the most underrated WrestleMania tag match of all-time.
Mania X returned to Madison Square Garden as Hart regained the WWE title from Yokozuna.
Razor Ramon defeated Shawn Michaels in the first-ever PPV ladder match that is still considered the standard bearer for ladder matches.
NFL legend Lawrence Taylor defeated Bam Bam Bigelow in the main event at XI, and that should tell you just what kind of shape the WWE was in during the mid-90s.
