Hall call nice surprise for Angle
Monday afternoon, word broke that Kurt Angle would headline WWEĢƵ 2017 Hall of Fame class, and it is both well deserved and a surprise.
A Pittsburgh native, Angle built quite the resume in his 6½-year WWE run.
He won a total of 12 titles during his short WWE run, and he is without question one of the top in-ring performers of all-time.
Angle appeared on ESPN SportsCenter Wednesday night along with anchor, and former WWE announcer, Jonathan Coachman.
If you have not seen the video, it is worth looking up online to appreciate AngleĢƵ humbled words.
Coachman did not mince words with Angle, calling him the most talented in-ring performer he has ever seen, and he posted a tweet on Twitter early Thursday morning reiterating the statement.
During the piece, Angle talked about his best matches.
Angle had classic matches with several stars, and his top three in my book were against Chris Benoit at the 2003 Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 21, and The Undertaker at No Way Out 2006.

Local show in Connellsville
When Connellsville native Jason Clements began his wrestling career almost two decades ago under the name Brandon K, he knew that he would not wrestle forever.
The light at the end of the tunnel of his in-ring career is getting brighter, but he is changing roles inside the wrestling business.
Clements will promote his second Ryse show Saturday night and the event will take place at The Stronghold Arena at the old Laurel Mall Cinema in Connellsville, although if you use a GPS to get there, it comes up as Lemont Furnace.
“I’m getting to the end of my in-ring career, but I’m not ready to walk away from something I’ve loved doing for so long,” said Clements. “Running my own promotion is the next natural step, and I’m looking to build a promotion where families can come and enjoy themselves.”
The preshow starts at 7 p.m. and the official bell time is 7:30.
There was a solid turnout for the promotions first show on December 9, and Clements is excited.
“We have something for everyone,” he said.
The top three matches include Ryan Reign vs. Joey Roger, Sonny Vice vs. Lee Moriarty, and Ganon Jones Jr. vs. Tony Johnson.
There is a special New YearĢƵ special going on for the show where $15 gets adults any seat in the house, while kids are $12 and under.
WWE Network changes coming
It appears that some independent wrestling promotions will have shows air on the WWE Network in the near future.
Several months ago, WWE sent out feelers to subscribers to check on interest in paying more for the Network per month if independent content was shown.
More on this as it develops as I am working on a feature that will run in the next few weeks.
Michael Cole going behind the scenes?
Word broke this week that Michael ColeĢƵ time as a lead announcer may be coming to an end in the future. He has been with WWE for 20 years now and when he does step away from an on-air role, he will work behind the scenes in the production end.
This weekĢƵ questions
n Now that Kurt Angle is back in the good graces of WWE, will he ever wrestle again, and if so, who will he face if only does one more match? I think Rusev would be the perfect pick. Nick Bell, Connellsville.
I think he will definitely wrestle again for WWE, and Rusev is a great choice. I am sure that Angle would like to have one last run, but his days of doing house shows nightly are long gone.
n I read online where Randy Orton was rude to a fan who apparently went up to him at a gym. Why would he do that? Kelly, Belle Vernon.
A fan interrupted Orton in the middle of his workout to ask to take a picture. Orton said no as he was trying to get a quick workout in.
I completely support Orton here as fans truly have no clue how little free time wrestlers (or athletes and actors, for that matter) have. It would have been one thing if Orton was leaving the gym, but no one can expect him to stop in the middle of his workout to take a picture with a Fred or Shelly because then everyone would want one.
Same thing when famous people are out with their family or at dinner. If a celebrity signs one autograph or takes one picture, then they will have to all night.
But if they say no, like Orton did, then they are perceived a as jerk.
It was a no-win situation for Orton.
