Royal Rumble outcome up in the air

By Bill Hughes for The 5 min read

The 30th annual Royal Rumble takes place tonight, and the outcome of the Rumble match itself truly is a guess.

No less than 10 men could win the match in my eyes, and this yearĢƵ Rumble match has the second deepest pool of talent in history. The only 30-man Rumble that could touch this one, in terms of star power, was in 1992.

If you have not seen the 1992 Rumble, despite being 25 years old, it stands the test of time and is still the best ever in my book.

Bobby HeenanĢƵ commentary made the match even more special, and I promise you will be entertained if you go back and watch it!

As far as who will win tonight, it is too easy to pick one of the big names like Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, or Goldberg. I really like Chris Jericho in the match, but not enough to choose him and a Braun Strowman win may still be a year away.

Could it be Bray Wyatt or Randy Orton? What about The Miz, Dean Ambrose, Triple H, or Seth Rollins (after somehow being entered back into the match)?

What if a debuting wrestler like Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, or even Kenny Omega won it? What if a star was born like Baron Corbin? There are so many options, and expect to see some surprises.

How fitting would it be for “The Perfect 10” Tye Dillinger to debut at No. 10?

AJ Styles will defend the WWE title against John Cena and Kevin Owens will defend the Universal title against Roman Reigns.

Cena will look to tie Ric Flair and win his 16th world title while Owens and his 153-day reign will try to thwart of Reigns, whose three world title reigns have totaled 118 days.

Will the losers of the two title matches enter the Rumble? And will Finn Balor be cleared to return to action, show up, and win? Will there be other surprises? Legends? Rey Mysterio? Others?

This year, the Rumble truly is the most unpredictable hour of the WWEĢƵ year and it is upon us. The one thing that is for certain is that the “Road to WrestleMania” starts tonight, and look for many Mania matches to start down that road.

Taker and Reigns? Cena and Joe? Styles and Shane McMahon?

So many new possibilities could arise tonight, and we are hours away from finding out what they are. The two-hour countdown show starts at 5 pm and the four-hour Rumble starts at 7 pm.

Area wrestler overseas

Façade, an independent wrestler known throughout the Pittsburgh area that has been making a name for himself for over a decade now, is currently touring overseas.

He left Tuesday to head to Singapore and will return this Tuesday after wrestling in Changi on Friday and Saturday.

He faced Anton Deryabin of Russia, with it being a rematch from when Façade defeated him last May on a Wrestle City Asia match in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

WCA is the sister company of Singapore Pro Wrestling.

“Supposedly, I was the first American independent wrestler to compete in Malaysia,” he said. “Or, the first guy outside of WWE.”

Façade will also head overseas next month as he leaves for Nigeria on Feb. 15 and returns on the Feb. 21.

“I am still unsure of the locations,” he said. “There are not many details on it right now, but it is being run by a private party within the local government and I know that the military will lead us to wherever we are going.”

The bookings were a result of Façade wrestling on two trips to Russia.

“I wrestled in St. Petersburg for Northern Storm and in Moscow for IWF/HOP,” he said. “After a good showing, word of mouth helped as of some of the Russian wrestlers mentioned me to a promoter in Malaysia.”

More on FaçadeĢƵ experience soon.

’18 Rumble in PA

Next January, NXT Takeover, the Rumble, Raw and Smackdown will all take place in Philadelphia. More on this as news becomes available.

This weekĢƵ questions

Will Kurt Angle win the Royal Rumble? Timmy, West Newton.

For Angle to win the Royal Rumble, he has to be entered in it. If he is going to enter the Rumble, he will have to have passed a physical by WWE doctors.

While it is not known if he has seen the doctors yet, I am going to guess no and here is why.

If the WWE was going to have him participate in the Rumble and also be inducted into the Hall of Fame, wouldn’t it have been a much bigger surprise had Angle came out for the Rumble as a surprise and then been announced the next night for the Hall?

Could he wrestle, yes.

But I would recommend going in thinking Angle will not wrestle and then if he does, it will be a pleasant surprise!
