Angle’s return to the ring

When Kurt Angle returned to the ring two weeks ago at TLC in place of Roman Reigns, WWE was caught between a rock and a hard place.

The original plan was for AngleĢƵ in-ring return to take place at WrestleMania, more than likely against Triple H, and while that match will probably happen, the excitement and build towards AngleĢƵ return was stymied down to a mere 53 hours.

WWE felt that it had no choice but to have Angle replace Reigns, but was there truly no one else to use in that spot? A.J. Styles crossed over from Smackdown Live to do the show, so why not bring someone else over?

It is a little bit confusing that WWE would put Angle in the ring that quick, and now he will wrestle at Survivor Series, as well.

Flair documentary airs Tuesday

Nature Boy, an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on the career of Ric Flair, airs Tuesday night at 9 p.m.

Filmed almost two years ago, it will give several looks, some good and some not so good, at the man who many consider the greatest all-around performer of all-time.

The documentary will definitely not just be a fluff piece talking about how great Flair was. Other topics will include the death of his son Reid and his womanizing on the road while in his prime.

Almost 50 wrestling personalities were interviewed, with over 20 of them making the final cut.

WWE releases three wrestlers

Last Sunday, WWE announced the release of Emma, Darren Young, and Summer Rae.

EmmaĢƵ release was the most surprising considering she had just faced Asuka the prior Sunday at TLC and the next night on Raw. Young never gained traction as a singles wrestler after splitting from his tag partner Titus O’Neil. Rae battled injuries the last few years and was recently cleared to return to the ring.

More news on 25th anniversary Raw show

Tickets are on sale for the 25th anniversary show of Monday Night Raw, and the event will take place in Jan. 22.

One bit of new information is on the venue location. Or, should I say locations.

Last week, we announced in this column that it would take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It has since been announced that the event will take place at two locations, with the second being the original home of Monday Raw, the Manhattan Center in New York City.

Right down the road, literally, from Madison Square Garden, the Manhattan Center hosted the early editions of Raw, but has not been used for the show since 1997.

Ironically, that was also the last year that Raw emanated from multiple locations on the same night.

Tickets for the Manhattan Center sold out in under a minute. Already announced for the show are Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker.

On this date …

In 2001, The Rock defeated Chris Jericho to win WWEĢƵ version of the WCW title.

This dates back to the Invasion angle that WWE mishandled terribly. It will always be one of those storylines where fans will wonder “what if,” had WWE ponied up and paid the top WCW stars to get out of their contracts.

This weekĢƵ question:

What can WWE do to improve 205 Live? Johnny, Uniontown.

For WWE to make 205 Live a better show, it needs to get back to the formula that it used for the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016.

During those shows, there were promos and vignettes used to educate fans on who the wrestlers were and to teach the fans about the backgrounds of each wrestler.

If WWE gives fans a reason to emotionally invest in the wrestlers and gives them a reason to care, the show will be much better.

Another issue is that with Raw being over three hours and Smackdown Live being two hours, expecting fans to spend that extra time on the WWE Network may be too much for early in the week.
