WVU keeps Big 12 hopes alive
West VirginiaÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ 20-16 upset over Iowa State tightened up the Big 12 race, and it helped the Mountaineers stay alive for a trip to the Big 12 title game.
Five teams are 4-2 or better in conference play, and two more are alive at 3-3.
Will Grier was 20 of 25 for 316 yards passing to pace the Mountaineers, who are at Kansas State Saturday.
PSUÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ playoff hopes gone…
Penn StateÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ chances at making the CFP ended Saturday with its last-second 27-24 loss at Michigan State.
The loss was the second in a row for the Nittany Lions, who came into the season with Big Ten and national championship aspirations.
However, there may still be a chance for Penn State to make the Big Ten title game but it will need a lot of help.
It has to win out, have Ohio State beat Michigan State Saturday, then have Michigan beat Ohio State the last weekend of the season and get even more help.
…as are BarkleyÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ Heisman hopes
Thanks to another subpar offensive display, Saquon is all but eliminated from having a chance to become Penn StateÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ second Heisman trophy winner.
While Baker Mayfield cemented his hold on the award Saturday with a 598-yard and six touchdown (five passing, one rushing) performance, Barkley had yet another low output.
He finished with 63 yards on 14 carries and this follows 44 yards on 21 carries last week at Ohio State.
Barkley has only rushed for 100 or more yards three times this season and has had game rushing totals of 47 yard, 56 yards and 75 yards to go along with the two previously mentioned totals.
A part of the problem is that Barkley has only carried the ball more than 16 times in a game three times all season.
Pitt was giving free tickets to ThursdayÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ game
An email was sent to most Pitt season ticket holders over the weekend stating that as a loyal fan, they are eligible for four free tickets to the game.
Pitt lost to a 1-8 North Carolina team, 34-31.
Local runners help Point Park
The Point Park University WomenÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ Cross-Country team won the Rivers States Conference Championship Saturday at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky while the MenÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ team earned a runner-up finish.
Junior Kara Rohlf (Brownsville Area) finished 12th and was named to the All-Conference team.
Rohlf also received two honors as she was named to the Rivers States Conference Championships of Character Team and a Rivers States Conference Student-Athlete.

Junior Sean Hilverding (Waynesburg Central) finished just outside of the All-Conference cut.
Thanks to their strong showings, both squads are headed to Vancouver, Washington for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Cross Country National Championship on Nov. 18.
Zimcosky, OU, fall to Buffalo
Sophomore Emily Zimcosky (Geibel Catholic) picked up two more wins on the young swimming season Saturday even though Ohio University lost its home opener to Buffalo, 161-139.
Zimcosky was part of the 200-yard medley relay team that picked up a win and she was also on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took first place.
The Bobcats return to the pool for the TYR Invitational at Northwestern University on November 17, 18, and 19.
