Hell in a Cell better than advertised

SmackdownĢƵ Hell in a Cell PPV last Sunday was much better than it looked on paper.

Both Cell matches delivered, and the Sami Zayn turn will breathe fresh life into his character.

Look for a tag match at Survivor Series between Zayn and Kevin Owens taking on Shane McMahon and A.J. Styles.

One concern I have is that the Smackdown Live creative team is already burying Shinsuke Nakamura.

He is a megastar in waiting, and with the way his storylines have been written, he may quickly be heading down the dreaded Dolph Ziggler or Zayn slippery slope towards irrelevance.

AsukaĢƵ debut at TLC

Another great example of WWE burying talent, whether intentionally or unintentionally, is Emma.

She won a match Monday night to earn the shot at facing Asuka at TLC later this month.

No pro wrestling fan who knows anything about WWE and NXT thinks that Emma has a chance to win.

When it comes to Asuka, how long will her undefeated streak last, and how long will the Raw creative team be able to come up with storylines to keep fans thinking that she will lose?

There are only a handful of women wrestlers for Asuka to face, so if she hypothetically stays undefeated until WrestleMania, that is over five months worth of drawn out storylines that will have to be written.

Can the creative team keep it interesting?

Lesnar versus Mahal?

Speaking of the Survivor Series, could WWE be toying with the idea of a champion versus champion match between Brock Lesnar and Mahal at the event?

Noted pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer is reporting this.

Neither the Universal title or the WWE title would be on the line, but would anyone buy Mahal actually having a chance?

WWE cruiserweight drama

There have been numerous reports over the last handful of days about the state of flux that the WWE cruiserweight division is in.

As of early Monday afternoon, Neville was to take on then-champ Enzo Amore.

Then the move was made later in the afternoon for Kalisto to challenge Enzo and win the title.

The move with the title to Kalisto was to play off his Mexican roots as it was the late Eddie GuerreroĢƵ birthday.

Amore and Kalisto were already penciled in to square off at TLC later this month and the match will more than likely still take place.

Here is where the drama comes in.

Multiple sources reported on Wednesday that Neville walked out before Raw, leaving his future with the company in doubt.

However, according to Mike Johnson of www.pwinsiderelite.com, it was reported Thursday that Neville was never at Raw but has pushed for his release.

Neville is said to be upset that his match against Austin Aries at WrestleMania was not put on the DVD of the show which left both out of royalties that would have come from the biggest selling DVD of the year.

WWE is stating that Neville is still with the company but several backstage sources believe him to be gone.

Back to Kalisto and Amore.

Look for Amore to regain the cruiserweight title in the near future.

Rowan and HarperĢƵ name change

On Tuesday night, Erik Rowan and Luke Harper debuted their new tag team name during a pretaped vignette.

They are now known as “The Bludgeon Brothers.”

Former TNA champ at WWE Performance Center

Madison Rayne, a former TNA Knockouts champion, worked out this past week in Orlando with WWE.

No word as of yet if she has been offered a contract.

Pro wrestling class partly in the books

This past Wednesday, and professor Tom Leturgey shared how the first of two classes went.

“I have received some good feedback,” he said. “I touched on everything meaningful from 1871 through the Studio Wrestling era.

“(Pro wrestling legend) Dominic DeNucci was very helpful with stories.”

The 1871 match that Leturgey was referring to was a 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon match between two local wrestlers at IrwinĢƵ Railroad Station.

With that said, that means the 150th anniversary of professional wrestling in Pittsburgh will be taking place in 2021!

On this date…

In 1951, Mae Young defeated Cora Combs in Tampa, Florida, to become the first NWA Florida womenĢƵ champion.

In 1998, X-Pac defeated D-Lo Brown to win the European title for a second time.
