Eight different Nittany Lions score against Georgia State

STATE COLLEGE — Penn StateĢƵ dismantling of Georgia State was expected, but a unique stat came about.

The Nittany Lions scored eight touchdowns, and eight different players scored them.

The team has a ridiculous amount of offensive fire power, but the running game still has room to improve.

Getting Saquon Barkley going on the ground will be vital, especially with a tough night game Saturday at Iowa.

It was IowaĢƵ win over Michigan a year ago, in a night game, that started giving Penn State fans hope for a Big Ten title, and you can bet the Hawkeyes (3-0) will look to play spoiler once again.

Iowa has won four of the last five games against Penn State played in Iowa City.

I will be in Iowa City for the game, so look for a first-person account next week of the game, the pink visitor locker rooms, and the stripe out atmosphere.

PittĢƵ other dilemma

In last weekĢƵ column, we discussed how the team needs to make the move to Ben DiNucci at quarterback.

He is listed as even with Max Browne, and I would not be surprised if he starts this week at Georgia Tech.

“The quarterback situation is, we’re going to continue to evaluate,” Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said Monday at his press conference. “They both do some really good things on tape.”

Speaking of Tech, they ran for 595 yards against Tennessee to open the season in its triple option offense, and that brings us to the other dilemma facing Pitt.

The Panthers seem to have a real problem tackling.

Narduzzi is known for his defensive coaching, so hopefully he and his staff can get the Panthers going this week.

WVU in midseason form

Prior to the season, the talk surrounding West Virginia was how Will Grier would do.

After shaking off some rust early against Virginia Tech, Grier has been on point.

In the Mountaineers’ 59-16 win over Delaware State Saturday, Grier completed 19 of 27 passes for 304 yards and three scores.

Look for another offensive outburst this week at Kansas.

Vulcan honored

After helping fifth-ranked Cal U win at Millersville, 29-13, senior linebacker Luke Hrapchak (Fairmont, West Virginia) was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

He finished the game with five tackles, including two for a loss, and leads the team with 19.

Hrapchak is tied for the team lead with 3.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks, and this comes a year after leading Cal U with 101 tackles a year ago.

Cal U hosts Seton Hill Saturday at 1 p.m. to open PSAC West play.

True meaning of family

Often times, athletes talk about their teammates being like family members.

On Sunday, the IUP WomenĢƵ soccer team proved that it is just that.

McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon) is a sophomore on the team, and her father, Erik, passed away Friday.

The entire womenĢƵ team made the drive down from Indiana to be there for McKenna at the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home on Sunday, and it shows just how much of a family teams can be for players and coaches.

Kudos to head coach Adel Heder, assistant Howard Magee, and the entire team for showing their support to McKenna in her greatest time of need.

Waynesburg football looking for first win

WaynesburgĢƵ football team led undefeated Carnegie Mellon, 13-6, in the third quarter Saturday, but it fell, 30-20, to fall to 0-3.

The Yellow Jackets look to pick up their first win of the season Saturday when they head to Cleveland, Ohio, to take on Case Western Reserve University.

Waynesburg womenĢƵ soccer on a roll

The womenĢƵ soccer team at Waynesburg took its five-match undefeated streak into its home match against Pitt-Greensburg last night.

The team has outscored its opponents, 9-3, during the run and are an overtime loss to Juniata on opening night from being undefeated right now.
