Prexies make most of TOs in 44-16 victory
The Washington defense intercepted Zach Cernuto six times Friday night and transformed five of those turnovers into points for a 44-16 Century Conference win at Southmoreland.
Two of the wayward passes were turned into instant points with Zahmere returning one interception 70 yards for a score and Zack Swartz bringing another 53 yards into the end zone.
Zahmere also scored on a 26-yard run after receiving a lateral from Swartz after he had a 12-yard gain.
The Scotties (4-3, 5-4) led 3-0 after the first quarter on Andrew Rodriguez’s 22-yard field goal, and increased the lead to 9-0 after Zach Cernuto hit Anthony Govern for a 14-yard touchdown pass.
Swartz then took over the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown plunge, a 42-yard scoring pass to Caleb Jackson and an 84-yard touchdown toss to Robinson.
Swartz led the Prexies with 102 yards rushing on 11 carries and completed 5-of-8 passes for 148 yards. Robinson caught two passes for 93 yards.
Brandon Peterson caught six passes for 119 yards for the Scotties. Govern had five receptions for 53 yards, and Riley Comforti caught seven passes for 76 yards.
Colt Harper gained 122 yards on the ground on 25 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run.
